Vidispine Solution from Arvato Systems Wins Coveted Technology and Engineering Emmy® Award

Vidispine: Emmy® Award for streaming technology
Emmy® Award for streaming technology
  • Award for pioneering work in the segment of cloud-based remote editing

Gütersloh – Vidispine, Arvato Systems’ brand that provides scalable solutions for media and industry, has announced it has received a prestigious 2022 Emmy® Award for Technology & Engineering from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS).

The Awards recognize developments and/or standardization involved in engineering technologies that either represent so extensive an improvement on existing methods or are so innovative in nature that they materially have affected television. The Committee for this year’s 73rd edition has recognized Arvato Systems’ pioneering  Vidispine solution for cloud-enabled remote editing.

Karsten Schragmann, Head of Product Management of the Vidispine portfolio at Arvato Systems, commented: “It is an honor to receive this accolade. For us, it underscores the Arvato Systems Vidispine team’s commitment and expertise for pioneering streaming technology that promotes cost-efficient, cloud-enabled remote production, and editing for media enterprises. We’d like to share this award with the team who have made this possible and our customers who have supported us and our technology all the way through.”

At a time that has seen remote post-production tools evolve dramatically to include cloud-based workflows and tools required and expected by users in the creative field, Arvato Systems, with its Vidispine portfolio, has been an early pioneer in the delivery of streaming technology to facilitate fast access to content, a key challenge for cloud-enabled remote production and editing.

Cost drivers in this scenario can be attributed to expensive content migrations to proprietary formats and/or storages. The Vidispine streaming technology enables customers to work in a cloud-enabled production workflow without unnecessary file conversions or transfers. It allows secure MPEG-Dash streaming of high-quality h.264 files which is the de facto standard for proxy media from object storages, and effectively transforms “the cloud” from pure storage and compute infrastructure to a post-production facility. It has all the features needed for professional production workflows, from frame-accurate playback over-growing file support to complex EDLs (Editing decision lists) playback, including video and audio effects. The streaming technology scales elasticity and can serve an unlimited number of users in parallel.

Nicolas Ley, Vice President of Vidispine at Arvato Systems, commented: “From entertainment to industry, video is everywhere, with more people than ever creating video content that puts a heavy demand on the underlying platforms. For our customers who need to quickly turn raw content into compelling stories, having easy access to technology that supports this, wherever they are, is paramount. It’s why our approach focuses on orchestrating and integrating the seamless workflows they need to bring value.”

The Arvato Systems Vidispine team will showcase its award-winning technology and additional innovative use cases at the 2022 National Association of Broadcasters Show (NAB) in Las Vegas from April 23 – 27.
