Automated Photo Fraud Detection in Claims Management

Reliably detect manipulated and generated damage patterns

The insurance industry is currently facing major challenges. As a result, fraud in claims management is becoming increasingly important. Experts assume that every tenth claim is a so-called "dubious claim" and exhibits conspicuous fraud patterns - resulting in estimated losses of around 6 billion euros for the industry every year.

Dubious claims and fraud are nothing new. However, the nature of fraud is constantly changing. The increasing availability of AI-based image processing programs makes manipulated damage images increasingly difficult to detect. The increasing availability of AI-based image processing programs is making it more and more difficult to detect manipulated damage images. Automated photo fraud detection systems make an important contribution to reliably identifying fraudulent claims.

Arvato Systems supports insurance companies with a future-proof solution that recognizes modern fraud patterns and secures claims processes in the long term.

Use Case

Initial situation

The insurance industry is facing rising fraud figures. Today, the industry incurs losses of around 6 billion euros annually. At the same time, a shortage of specialists and cost pressure make it difficult to effectively prevent fraud. Undetected manipulation is regulated, and increasing dark processing bypasses the human eye as an important control authority.

Vision

Driven by a shortage of skilled workers, cost pressure and technological developments, the claims management of the future will be largely automated. Processes will become more efficient and economical, while automatic fraud detection with a low false positive rate will reliably protect the insured collective from unnecessary costs.

Solution

Arvato Systems offers automatic photo fraud detection that reliably identifies generated and manipulated images and thus prevents fraudulent damage at an early stage. Thanks to partnerships with leading input management-providers, the implementation effort is low, while at the same time ensuring high data qualityät.

Advantages of Automatic Photo Fraud Detection in Claims Management

Recognize fraud

Detects manipulated or AI-generated damage photos automatically and at an early stage so that fraud cases are identified before an unauthorized settlement is made.

Reduce costs

Reduces the burden on fraud prevention and claims processing, so that potentially unauthorized payments can be reduced and thus direct costs reduced.

Maintaining sovereignty

Operation in German data centers supports high requirements for data protection, data sovereignty and business-critical compliance standards.

Avoid false positives

Our solution technically and procedurally minimizes false-positive messages by detecting harmless manipulations such as markings and repeated requests to images.

Configurable set of rules

For images that cannot be clearly categorized, a configurable set of rules supports the leveling and prevents overloading in cumulus situations.

Strong partnerships

The cooperation with leading input management providers enables the use of high-quality raw data - without additional implementation effort for insurers.

Our Services for Your Success

  • It is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish manipulated damage images from originals with the naked eye. A multi-stage analysis process helps to reliably identify such manipulations - regardless of which AI model or image processing program was used.

  • Generated images used to be easy to recognize, but modern image models are making it increasingly difficult to distinguish between them. The process is designed to identify even high-quality, realistic-looking generated content and control it accordingly.

  • Not every image submitted is actually from the person who submitted it. Freely available images from the Internet are often used. An integrated reverse search compares the image material with publicly available sources and eliminates any anomalies.

  • Images may not only be submitted once in cases of fraud, but may also be used multiple times. Automated matching reliably detects such multiple submissions and indicates possible connections or duplicates. Our solution recognizes these duplicates, even if the perspective or detail is slightly different.
