Microsoft Power Platform Governance at OGE

Although OGE pursued a clear digital and cloud strategy, Microsoft Power Platform was not initially on the IT agenda. The energy supplier gained its first experience with process automation during the introduction of Microsoft Office. The low-code possibilities quickly aroused interest - the first specialist departments developed their own solutions. However, there was a lack of a responsible body, governance guidelines, monitoring and best practices. To ensure compliance, data protection and IT security, the focus shifted to the introduction of a clear governance framework.

OGE wanted to provide a platform that would enable departments to automate repetitive tasks and develop and implement complex applications in a consistent and maintainable way - from simple workflows that promote employees' personal productivity to large applications that affect the entire company. Regular voluntary community events were held to encourage employees to develop their own low-code apps in the Microsoft Power Platform, making their own work and that of their colleagues easier.

The solution was to create a central, secure platform that would enable OGE employees to work with the Power Platform in a controlled and efficient manner. A clear governance strategy made it possible to establish guidelines that both ensure compliance and security requirements are met and promote flexible, sustainable use of the platform. This platform enables the specialist departments to develop automated processes and create complex applications independently and in compliance with regulations.
