In the course of increasing digitalization and the now further increased number of regulatory requirements in the energy and utilities industry, Stadtwerke München (SWM) was faced with the task of developing an API process for the energy industry by 6 June 2025. By June 6, 2025, Stadtwerke München (SWM) was faced with the task of developing an API process for determining market location identification numbers (MaLo-ID). This measure, which was specified by the legislator, in particular the BDEW, is intended not only to improve the efficiency and security of processes, but also to meet the requirements of the energy and supply market. Arvato Systems was commissioned to implement this complex challenge and develop a customized solution for SWM.

Project Overview

Initial situation

The regulatory requirement for the MaLo-Ident process, which had to be implemented as part of the 24-hour change of supplier electricity, provides for the "determination of a MaLo-ID" an API process that had to be introduced by June 6, 2025. SWM had issued a tender for the "API Web Service - Determination of an MaLo-ID", which ran from October 2024 to January 2025. After an intensive preparation period, Arvato Systems was awarded the contract to implement the project.

Vision

The aim was to introduce a reliable API solution that meets the extensive requirements of SWM and the regulatory requirements. The implementation of the API solution is intended to ensure the security and efficiency of the processes in the 24-hour supplier changeover and to optimize the existing MaKo Add solution.

Solution

The project to introduce an API process to "determine a MaLo-ID" began on January 30, 2025. The experts at Arvato Systems prepared the SaaS environment and the integration of the API certificates including the API directory service. Arvato Systems supported SWM in setting up the API interface on its IT systems. Arvato Systems provided an SAP project accelerator (SAP ECC/IS-U Adapter) to connect to existing SAP systems. The far more extensive requirements for the 24-hour supplier change were implemented in parallel.

Our Services

With the help of Arvato Systems, Stadtwerke München successfully fulfilled the regulatory requirement to introduce an API process for the "determination of a MaLo-ID". In close cooperation with SWM, Arvato Systems acted as a sparring partner and supported the independent implementation of many tasks by the Munich-based energy provider. During the IT project, the SaaS environment and the integration of the necessary API certificates were prepared. Finally, the API directory service was connected and went live.

The parallel implementation of the requirements for the 24-hour change of supplier ensured compliance with current regulatory requirements. A decisive factor was the provision of the SAP project accelerator (SAP ECC/IS-U Adapter), which enabled the energy supplier to smoothly integrate the API processes into their existing SAP system.

Arvato Systems supported SWM with security checks, including the PEN test, to ensure all security aspects. By the end of the first quarter, the solution was fully deployed so that comprehensive testing could be carried out. The final go-live was scheduled for June 6, 2025, followed by a Hypercare phase, which was accompanied by the Gold Support Package.

This successful implementation underlines the lasting strength of the partnership between Arvato Systems and SWM and the ability to meet complex regulatory requirements efficiently and securely.
