Strategic Tool in the PVS: tim+ for Secure and Cross-Sector Communication
From gematik approval to seamless PVS integration
For manufacturers of practice management systems (PVS), digital communication is increasingly becoming a strategic component of their solutions. While messengers have long been part of everyday working life, particularly in the care sector, cross-sector exchange often takes place in healthcare by telephone or fax. Less due to a lack of willingness, but because secure, standardized communication channels have been lacking up to now.
With the further development of the telematics infrastructure (TI), this situation is changing fundamentally: TI-based messenger services such as tim+ combine familiar forms of communication with high requirements for data protection, interoperability, and reliability requirements. The exchange between service providers is therefore simpler, more structured, and, for the first time, consistently possible across sectors.
This development opens up new scope for PVS manufacturers: they can modernize their systems in a targeted manner to prepare their customers for increasingly networked care and thus noticeably reduce their workload. The TI Messenger is not a technical gimmick, but a logical step towards cross-sector care in the healthcare sector.
tim+ In Use
For many PVS manufacturers, the TI Messenger is not a new topic. The conceptual principles and the role messenger services will play in future cross-sector communication are well known. The decisive questions are less "if" and more "how", "when" and, above all, "at what cost".
Since the gematik approval of tim+ at the latest, the implementation point has been reached. tim+ is in the gematik-Fachportal and is therefore officially part of the telematics infrastructure. Above all, however, tim+ can now be used in practice and integrated into PVS systems. This turns an abstract perspective into a concrete tool for the day-to-day care of over 70 million SHI-insured people.
This classification is central, as it shifts the focus from fundamental discussions to real-world application scenarios. The focus is now on the reliable availability and benefits in everyday life, for example, when making appointments, coordinating between the doctor's surgery and nursing care, when providing medical aids and appliances, or in interdisciplinary collaboration. It is precisely at these points that the vital contribution tim+ can make becomes apparent.
Medical supply stores receive prescriptions for medical aids every day. It is estimated that around 80 percent of these are incorrect or incomplete. This leads to
- high clarification effort,
- Gaps in care for patients,
- New issues of the regulation and
- interruptions in the care process.
In combination with the e-prescription introduced for medical aids from 2026, tim+ can significantly improve the quality of care. For example, queries about incorrect prescriptions can be clarified quickly and easily via chat. Doctors can reply directly via a secure communication channel, add missing information, or correct the prescription. This effectively reduces sources of error and gaps in care, enabling patients to receive the aid they need more quickly.
tim+ enables secure, direct, and seamless digital communication with the doctor's surgery. In the future, appointments can be requested, findings clarified, or queries raised via the ePA or health insurance app - fully automated, supported by a chatbot, and connected to the practice software. The
- noticeably relieves the telephone lines in the practices,
- makes it easier for patients to cancel appointments and thus reduces the number of no-shows,
- reduces the volume of inquiries for simple queries and
- provides the user with up-to-date information that, e.g., ePrescriptions, laboratory tests, and eDoctor's letters are available for retrieval in the ePA.
In this way, tim+ establishes a modern, user-friendly standard for practice-patient communication. Routine processes can be automated, and practice workflows improved with tim+. Patients also receive faster and more transparent information.
The palliative care of patients undergoing therapy requires the cooperation of many players at different locations: nursing staff, GPs, relatives, and the palliative care team. The result is fragmented communication, with important information and time being lost. The use of a secure TI messenger such as tim+ offers advantages for all parties involved:
Physicians can respond quickly to acute needs identified by nursing staff.
In the group chat, all participants are always on the same level.
Patients communicate in real time during this last phase of their lives.
The entire exchange of data and information can be documented and archived in an audit-proof manner. It is traceable for subsequent participants, such as hospice or pastoral care teams.
Test tim+ Now and Benefit Sustainably
For many PVS manufacturers, the question of the right time still arises. This is precisely where tim+ comes in. Our messenger solution is designed to be easy to try out and use step by step. The introduction is deliberately kept simple, allowing experience to be gained before further integration steps are planned.
At the same time, it is worth getting started, as the usage context already exists among the other players. Messenger services are already being used intensively, particularly in the care sector. The expectation of secure, TI-compliant alternatives to telephone and insecure communication channels is also growing on the medical side. Due to the comprehensive access of SHI-insured persons via apps - around 12 million insured - and the increasing spread of TI messenger services, it is certain that their use will come and quickly become a matter of course.
This offers PVS manufacturers the opportunity not only to react, but also to position themselves actively. Those who test and integrate tim+ can specifically introduce customers to the new form of cross-sector communication, prepare processes, and make concrete added value visible. At the same time, there is room for profiling: through your own integration approaches, through tailor-made usage scenarios, and through the ability to accompany customers safely through the change.
Together, we make your PVS "tim-ready" and also take all further steps with you - always at eye level and with room for individual integration approaches.
