Background Situation

Schmitz Cargobull AG is Europe's leading manufacturer of semi-trailers, trailers and motor vehicle bodies for temperature-controlled freight, general cargo and bulk goods. In the course of the digital transformation, the company planned to move its IT landscape to the cloud. The fast and reliable migration of the SAP systems was the clear core topic. An extremely tight schedule was set for the migration project, which began in September 2018 and was completed with Arvato Systems' successful move after Christmas, so that worldwide production could start on time for the second of January 2019.

Schmitz Cargobull wants to enable its customers for the future of logistics, optimize internal processes and thus expand its role as an innovation leader for the entire logistics chain by consistently digitizing products, services, production and processes. For the migration of the SAP landscape to the cloud, the company was looking for an experienced partner who could act reliably and fast, understood the company's digital vision and can provide the necessary stability for daily processes as well as agility for future applications.

Solution

The experts from Arvato Systems enabled a smooth transfer of the SAP systems to Azure, the change of the database from Oracle to HANA/SyBase and the release change of the modules within the given time frame. Schmitz Cargobull now works on highly available SAP systems, was able to avoid expensive hardware investments and gains in flexibility: In addition to ten percent lower operating costs, the systems now scale according to demand and can be easily down- and upgraded.
