Smart Energy Data Management

How to create your own energy transition

Where There Is a Lot of Light, There Is Plenty of Savings Potential

Intelligent energy data monitoring is a new and profitable way to save energy in the long term. The foundation for savings are the acquisition and analysis of consumption and process related data which then shows which conclusions are to be drawn. The sector of lighting is particularly relevant to companies because of the enormous potential for optimization and savings. In countless areas of buildings, light usually burns, even though it is unnecessary. The challenge here is to recognize the savings potential precisely and to drive it with the right measures.

Less consumption, more profit

The increase of profitability is made possible by the intelligent management of digital consumption and process data: When are offices and common room areas used and when are they not? At what times is which amount of light required? Late in the evenings for example, when the maintenance staff is cleaning the offices and other areas, the full lighting of all parts and floors of the building is not needed. The unscheduled usage of light creates high saving potentials. By using the Smart Energy Platform, lighting scenarios can be adapted to actual needs in real time, without having to purchase several individual software systems. The Smart Energy Platform is a high-performance Internet of Things (IoT) and big data platform which enables the automated coordination and control of thousands of units for power generation and consumption. At the same time, the Smart Energy Platform helps to extend the lifetime of many light bulbs which additionally reduces costs.

Within the Bertelsmann Group, Arvato is implementing the energy data management and applies it to practice. In March, "green.screen", a pilot project for IT-based energy data management started across all Arvato divisions. Environmental data is collected and analyzed at numerous Solution Group locations worldwide. However, this pilot project is only kicking-off more climate protection: In addition to the use of the collected data for legally required environmental reporting, the next step is to expand the energy data management within Bertelsmann to increase the energy efficiency in all business locations using additional IT tools.
