Diversity

Diversity as the basis for corporate success

Experiencing Diversity Together - Our DiversITty Initiatives

2020_Corporate_Verantwortung_SDG_Diversity

For us, employee diversity is a prerequisite for innovation and the basis for sustainable corporate success. The potential and skills of our employees should be recognized, utilized and developed in the best possible way - regardless of their gender, age, skin color, origin, disability or sexual orientation. This also clearly means that we reject all forms of discrimination and racism. We want to value not only commonalities but also differences equally. It is our diverse workforce that makes us an innovative company capable of competing and growing.

Jochen Fuchs wird CHRO bei Arvato Systems

Equal opportunities for all and the experience and exploitation of the enormous power of diversity to implement and shape change. At Arvato Systems, we want to make this a tangible experience, promote it and consistently expand it further! The more diversity, the more creativity, perspectives, and evolution will be realized. Creating environments where people can develop and grow is also a fundamental component of our Leadership Principles.

Our Focus: Charta der Vielfalt

LGBTIQ+ Network "be.queer"

"be.queer" is the network for LGBTIQ+ employees and allies at Bertelsmann, which promotes an open working environment for all employees regardless of their sexual orientation and identity. The network aims to raise awareness of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer issues, increase their visibility, and reduce reservations.

Transgender Guidelines be.queer

To be able to be yourself in the workplace - to ensure this for trans* people as well, be.queer has developed guidelines. The guide for trans* employees is intended to encourage them to live their gender identity at work and provides tips and points of contact for shaping this process. Managers and HR play an essential role in the coming out process and transition. They can play a significant role in shaping their employees' opinions and acceptance and making the process as comfortable as possible for the trans* person. A guide was also created for these target groups.

From the beginning, many of our employees have been active in "be.queer" and represented at many events:

IDAHOBIT

Show your flag! The International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia, and Transphobia has been held annually on May 17 since 2005 to draw attention to discrimination against people who deviate from heteronormativity in their sexual orientation or gender identity. Arvato Systems regularly participates with numerous rainbow flags.

CSD Bielefeld

Once again, we supported the LGBTIQ+ community "bie.queer" Bielefeld by sponsoring bicycle rickshaws on the occasion of the "CSD Pride Day." In this way, people with limited mobility could also participate in this year's demonstration in Bielefeld, which advocates for more diversity, tolerance, and acceptance of sexual and gender diversity.

Transgender Event for Executives

On May 31, 2022, our virtual CR event for executives took place, as they are essential multipliers and shapers of the topic of CR. Our speaker Prof. Dr. Anna Svea Fischer, a transident woman, explained the terminology "transidentity" from a social as well as biological perspective and enriched her impulse with her personal experiences.

CSD Cologne

Under the motto "Diversity is our daily business," we joined forces with the UFA in 2019 to campaign for diversity and equal opportunities by participating in the CSD. Together with colleagues, family members, and friends, we had 120 participants and set a sign for tolerance and diversity with our float and a large foot troop.

Sticks & Stones Recruiting Fair

For several years, we have been represented together with other Bertelsmann divisions and be.queer at STICKS & STONES - Europe's largest LGBT+ job and career fair. Our colleagues inform interested parties about exciting career opportunities, jobs, and the be.queer network.

DiversITy-Fokus: Gender

To further increase diversity at all levels, Bertelsman has set itself the goal of promoting gender equality in all divisions and increasing the proportion of women in top and senior management. In addition, there are a variety of initiatives and events around the topic of gender diversity, such as:

GirlsDay

We have participated in GirlsDay for many years and offer interested girls the opportunity to spend a day getting a taste of IT at our company. The day is intended to motivate girls from the 5th grade onwards to take up STEM professions, to break down prejudices and thus help increase the proportion of female employees in MINT professions. In 2022, 13 girls in Gütersloh and 9 girls in Rostock took part in GirlsDay.

Social Media Campaign #ArvatoSystemsWomenWednesday

With the aim of making women in IT more visible, Arvato Systems featured a female colleague on our  LinkedIn-Channel very Wednesday in May and June 2022. Nine female colleagues spread across the globe, nine professions from different disciplines and nine life paths: The first round of our social media campaign "#ArvatoSystemsWomen-Wednesday" showed how broad the spectrum of work areas is in which women work at our company.

herSystemS

Our women's network was founded in 2019. With the network, we have created a space where our female colleagues can engage in dialog, inspire each other and network in order to thus increase the proportion of women in the organization and especially in leadership positions, as well as to connect and support female colleagues in the company in a targeted manner. More than 250 female colleagues are now part of our network. Every year, we hold numerous events, including herSystemS lunches, virtual events, peer mentoring, our info series by colleagues for colleagues, herSystemS working groups and training sessions on deep work, and female career coaching.

DiversITy-Fokus: Physical & Mental Abilities

People with mental or physical disabilities are a part of our society that is often overlooked. We have therefore made it our mission to promote inclusion in all areas of the company and to address the unique needs and abilities of people with disabilities:

Bertelsmann Action Plan Inclusion

To reinforce this attitude, Bertelsmann published its Inclusion Action Plan in September 2019. Based on this plan, all employees with disabilities in Bertelsmann's German companies should be able to work without barriers and contribute to the company's success to their full potential by 2024.

Representative for severely disabled persons

And to implement the Inclusion Action Plan and the Group Inclusion Agreement, the local representatives for severely disabled persons (SBV) and the overall Group SBVs work daily to break down barriers and offer employees with disabilities the same opportunities and development possibilities as employees without disabilities.

Recruiting-Initiative myAbility

One aspect of inclusion is the ability to apply on an equal-opportunity basis. That's why we are cooperating with myAbility. On this platform, people with disabilities and chronic illnesses can search for jobs without fear of discrimination. Through an interface, all our jobs are published on myAbility. Benachteiligung fürchten zu müssen. Durch eine Schnittstelle werden alle unsere Jobs auf myAbility veröffentlicht.

DiversITy-Fokus: Nationality

With more than 3,000 employees at over 25 locations worldwide, Arvato Systems' employees come from over the world. They come from a wide range of ethnicities and cultures and therefore bring various perspectives, experiences, and skills. That's why we are involved in the following initiatives, among others, and offer a wide range of opportunities:

ReDI School of Digital Integration

The ReDI School is a non-profit school that supports people with a migration background, refugees, and those in need with an affinity for IT in their integration into the German job market. We cooperate with the initiative by participating in job events and meeting students. We also advertise entry-level positions on the ReDI job platform, and colleagues act as mentors at the ReDI School.

Coffee Connection-Initiative

At our Coffee Connection, our employees can get to know colleagues from all over the company and, thus, internationally during coffee breaks to experience exchange across departments and locations. Take advantage of this opportunity to expand your network internationally.

Language Courses

With the online language courses, Bertelsmann University, in cooperation with Learnship, offers all employees the opportunity to improve their language skills, including English. In the Virtual Classroom, employees can meet with trainers from all over the world, either alone or in groups.

#Jobs4Ukraine

The war in Ukraine has triggered the most significant flight movement within Europe since the Second World War. Many refugees want to and are allowed to work; among them are many IT professionals. To offer these people career prospects, we have joined forces with other Bertelsmann companies to create a global job search list for Ukrainian refugees and/or Ukrainians looking for a job opportunity.

Diversity as a Focus Topic in Our CR Council

In December 2019, the Arvato Systems CR Council was established, consisting of colleagues from various areas. Through the CR Council, the topic of corporate responsibility was bundled and focused across the board. A particular focus was placed on some DEI topics because they were identified as particularly important in the context of our corporate activities.
