The Perfect Replacement for End-of-Lifed Adobe Anywhere

Adobe will cease to officially support Adobe Anywhere, its collaborative workflow platform for Adobe Premiere Pro and Prelude users. This is going to present a serious issue for many Premiere Pro users in particular. There are an increasing number of Premiere Pro users reliant on collaborative ways of working and an industry-wide move to remote editing workflows.

Luckily in the shape of our EditMate solution for Adobe Premiere Pro, Anywhere users have a ready-made, mature, and robust replacement that will allow them to organize and centralize their projects in the manner to which they have been accustomed. In fact, in several areas it is an improvement on what Anywhere has previously offered. It provides increased functionality and flexibility at a more cost-effective pricepoint.

The EditMate Advantages

There are several areas where EditMate scores highly over Anywhere already.

For a start, the H.264 proxy that is automatically transcoded during ingest is streamed to the client up to a Full HD resolution and can also be used throughout other applications. This allows editors to always work at decent resolutions, ensuring they are provided with the visual information they need to make creative decisions.

Second, it leverages the growing file support contained within Premiere Pro. This means that work can start on editing a file while it is being ingested. And thirdly, timeline rendering is undertaken on the local machine rather than on the server, meaning that previewing the timeline and associated effects doesn’t require additional hardware and software resources.

Anywhere’s server-based timeline rendering, with its requirements for live transcoding, is undeniably less cost-effective than EditMate with its pre-rendered proxies, which have been created upon ingest. There are other areas where EditMate is more cost-effective too. EditMate’s use of adaptive streaming at up to hi-res quality lowers costs when it comes to data transfer; the VPMS Streaming Server supports up to 250 streams per standard COTS IT server. Its place in the wider suite of VPMS products gives users easy and cost-effective access to market-leading Media Asset Management, workflow engines and more.

And, of course, one further advantage: EditMate will continue to be developed after the Anywhere EoL deadline at the end of 2019.

Beyond Adobe Anywhere’s End of Life

Despite the EoL decision from Adobe, Anywhere is going to continue to be a popular solution for many users for a time still to come. But we would argue that EditMate already offers a compelling alternative to the Anywhere solution. As the industry digests the news of the EoL and looks to transition to new solutions to keep up with the challenges of increasingly collaborative workflows, so those arguments look better all the time.

The twin advantages of centralizing resources while allowing for remote editing in multiple locations is an increasingly prevalent production paradigm. EditMate allows Adobe Premiere Pro users to do just that, and by using Full HD proxies rather than transcoding, allows them to do it more quickly and more cost-effectively than before. It is a mature product, already in use by enterprise broadcasters across the globe. And when Adobe Anywhere can no longer be used by all the Premiere Pro teams that have come to rely on collaborative ways of working, EditMate can drive editing workflows for Adobe Premiere Pro users on towards the future.
